Middle and High School Students Return to Four Day In-Person Learning after Spring Break
LONGMONT, CO, February 23, 2021– Today the St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD) announced the return of middle and high school students to in-person learning four days per week beginning Monday, March 29, 2021. SVVSD middle and high school students have either been 100% online or hybrid since the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.
St. Vrain Educational Advocates enthusiastically supports the return of K-12 SVVSD students to four day in-person learning at the conclusion of the spring break holiday. “All students deserve the opportunity for full-time in-person learning”, says Dan Maloit, founder of St. Vrain Educational Advocates. “Data has proven that schools are safe for in-person learning. With the successful distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to SVVSD teachers and staff, our children deserve to return to the classroom immediately.”
Students who are unable to return to a school setting are suffering educational degradation, social isolation, neglect, and increased levels of stress and anxiety both in Colorado and across the nation. Suspected abuse cases have been on the rise in pediatric hospitals and childhood suicide is now a daily discussion throughout Colorado as a result of mandated remote learning. This isolating experience prevents teachers from acting in their important role as first line reporters of abuse and self-harm for the most vulnerable members of our society. The increased workload on an already stressed student and parent population has been especially harmful to our under-privileged, dual-income, and single-parent households.
“The stories our parents have shared about the struggles our SVVSD middle and high school students have faced this year is of concern and heartbreaking. We look forward to our students returning to school after the spring break holiday and will continue to advocate full-time five-day-a-week in-person learning for K-12”, says Dan Maloit. SVVSD has announced that they plan to return to five-day in-person learning in the 2021-2022 school year.
St. Vrain Education Advocates is dedicated to advocating for our children to be properly served by SVVSD with in-person learning. We recognize the challenging position of SVVSD teachers, school administrators, and personnel during the pandemic and support their tireless work and dedication to our children.
